Ji-Hwan Kim

Jihwan Kim joined the Department of Economics at Hanyang University, ERICA in September 2020. Before joining the program, he mainly consulted on pressing issues related to economic developments (e.g., Incheon & Yellow-Sea Free Economic Zones), urban developments (e.g., Songsan Green City), and inner-city problems in Korea. For three years, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Housing Studies at DePaul University, investigating neighborhood changes and socio-demographic shifts in Chicago, IL, and suggesting relevant housing policies for the CHA and the McArthur Foundation. Currently, Jihwan’s scholarly research focuses on urban idiosyncrasy and informality, inner city problems and urban inequality, and urban data science. In reflecting his research interests, he actively co-investigates increasing urban inequality due to aging – such as pressing issues regarding robots in elderly and disability care.
