UK-South Korea Ageing in Place Research Network

UK and South Korea both face major challenges of an ageing population, particularly for supporting inclusive healthy ageing and sustainable health and social care provision. To this end recent policy drivers in both the UK and South Korea have focused on place-based ageing through concepts such as ‘Integrated Care Systems’ and ‘Integrated Community Care System’ with a particular emphasis on the role of housing.

This network represents the facilitation of cross-national research around urban ageing themes between the UK and South Korea, building a long-term multidisciplinary research collaboration between the two countries. The ultimate aim of the network is to better understand the relationship between healthy ageing, housing and social care in the UK and South Korea with the following two research themes: (1) housing for older people; (2) emerging health and social care models.

The network is led by Dr Youngha Cho (Oxford Brookes University, UK) and teamed up with Prof Ramin Keivani (Oxford Brookes University), Dr Karla Zimpel-Leal (Oxford Brookes University), Dr Jo Brett (Oxford Brookes University), Prof Sarah Harper (University of Oxford), Dr Changha Jin (Hanyang University). The network partners are Konkuk University, Hanyang University, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG), Korean Association for Housing Policy Studies (KAHPS) and Age UK Oxfordshire.
